Every other ED tablet on our shelf asks you to plan. An hour for sildenafil. Two hours, ideally, for tadalafil to peak. Avanafil asks for fifteen minutes. That is the whole reason it exists, and it’s the reason a small but loyal group of customers reorder Avana 100 every couple of months and never touch anything else.
It’s also the least-understood tablet we sell. People assume “newest” means “strongest” (it doesn’t), assume the 50 mg is a weaker version of the 100 mg for beginners only (half true), and get baffled by pack sizes of 32, 40, 60, 80 and 92 that make no sense until you know the strips hold four. So here’s the guide, from the people who count those strips into boxes.
The short answer
Avanafil is the fastest-acting PDE5 inhibitor and the least fussy about food. It works in 15–30 minutes, lasts around 6 hours, and is the least likely of the four ED molecules to give you blue-tinted vision. It’s not longer-lasting than tadalafil and not “stronger” than sildenafil. Start at 100 mg (or 50 mg if you’re sensitive to side effects or over 65), never exceed 200 mg in 24 hours, and buy the 40, 60 or 80 pack — the 32-pack and the 92-pack are, per tablet, the worst value on the page, and we’ll show you the maths.
What avanafil is, and why it’s the newest
Avanafil is the generic name for the drug sold as Stendra in the US and Spedra in Europe. It was approved in 2012 — fourteen years after sildenafil — and it was designed with one goal: hit PDE5 harder and faster while leaving the related enzymes alone.
That last part matters more than it sounds. Sildenafil also nudges an enzyme called PDE6 in the retina, which is where the blue-tint vision comes from. Avanafil is far more selective for PDE5 over PDE6, so that side effect is rare. The mechanism is otherwise the family one: block PDE5, let cGMP build up, let blood-vessel muscle relax. No arousal, no effect. Avana on the sofa with the news on does exactly nothing.
The Avana we stock is made by Sunrise Remedies in Gujarat — the same company behind Tadarise and Zhewitra — in strips of four film-coated tablets. Two strengths: Avana 50 and Avana 100. (Avana 200 exists in some markets; we don’t stock it.)
15–30 minutes: what “fastest” really means
Here’s the same clock for all four molecules, from the labels:
| Avanafil (Avana) | Sildenafil (Cenforce) | Vardenafil (Vilitra) | Tadalafil (Vidalista) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onset | 15–30 min | 30–60 min | 25–60 min | 30 min–2 h |
| Peak | 30–45 min | ~1 h | ~1 h | ~2 h |
| Useful window | ~6 hours | ~4–5 hours | ~4–6 hours | up to 36 hours |
| Half-life | ~5 hours | ~4 hours | ~4–5 hours | ~17.5 hours |
| Food effect | Small | Marked | Modest | None |
| Blue-tint vision | Rare | Its signature | Uncommon | Rare |
“Fifteen minutes” is the label’s earliest figure, at 200 mg, in trials where men were told to try from 15 minutes onward. For 100 mg, count on 30 minutes and you won’t be disappointed. That’s still half the wait of sildenafil, and the window that follows — about six hours — is a bit longer than sildenafil’s, which surprises people. Avana isn’t only quicker to start. It’s slightly longer to finish.
The practical upshot: you can take it after the decision has been made rather than an hour before it. Customers call that the difference between a tablet you take “in case” and one you take “because”.
Food and vision: the two things it does better
We keep a rough tally of why first ED orders turn into “it didn’t work” emails. For sildenafil, dinner is the top reason. For avanafil, it rarely comes up.
- → Food: a high-fat meal delays avanafil’s peak by about an hour and trims it a little, but doesn’t blunt it the way it blunts sildenafil. Light meal, no problem at all.
- → Vision: avanafil’s selectivity for PDE5 over PDE6 means blue-tinted vision and light sensitivity are rare. This is the reason a subset of long-time sildenafil users switch.
- → Alcohol: the label warns that avanafil plus a lot of alcohol drops blood pressure and raises heart rate more than either alone. One or two drinks. Not more.
- → Grapefruit juice: raises avanafil levels. Skip it on the day, same as every PDE5 inhibitor.
What it does not do better: last longer than tadalafil. If you want a 36-hour window, avanafil is the wrong shelf — go to tadalafil.
Avana 50 or Avana 100? Dosing without guesswork
The label starts avanafil at 100 mg, which is unusual — every other PDE5 inhibitor starts you at half the top dose. 50 mg is the reduced dose. 200 mg is the licensed maximum. So:
| Dose | Who it suits | How |
|---|---|---|
| 50 mg | Men over 65; men who get headaches or flushing on other PDE5 inhibitors; men on alpha-blockers (the label says start here); men taking moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors (erythromycin, diltiazem, verapamil, fluconazole) | One Avana 50, or half an Avana 100 |
| 100 mg | The official starting dose for most men under 65 | One Avana 100 |
| 200 mg | When 100 mg gave a partial result without side effects — the licensed maximum | Two Avana 100 at once, once in 24 hours, only if a doctor agrees |
| Above 200 mg | Not licensed. Don’t. | — |
Our honest view: Avana 100 is the usual top dose we sell and the one most men should start with. Buy Avana 50 if you’re in the reduced-dose group above, or want the gentlest first try. Avana 100 is scored, so halving it gives 50 mg doses anyway; the 50 mainly saves you the cutting.
Timing and the rest, in the order that fixes the most emails:
- Take it 30 minutes before — 15 is possible, 30 is reliable.
- A light meal is fine; a heavy fatty one costs you about an hour.
- One dose in 24 hours. Not two because the first “didn’t work”.
- Expect the window to run about six hours.
- You still need to be aroused. Always.
- Give it three tries before you judge it — first-night nerves beat any tablet.
Side effects and who must not take it
Avanafil’s common side effects are the family ones, at generally lower rates than sildenafil in the trials: headache (the most common), flushing, blocked nose, back pain, and — because the drug is out quickly — most of them last hours, not a day. Blue vision is rare. Sudden hearing loss and NAION (sudden vision loss) are the rare serious ones across all PDE5 inhibitors; stop and see a doctor if either happens.
Talk to a doctor first if any of these are you:
- → Heart attack, stroke or life-threatening arrhythmia in the last six months
- → Unstable angina, angina during sex, or heart failure that limits activity
- → Blood pressure below 90/50 or above 170/100 uncontrolled
- → Severe liver or kidney disease (avanafil hasn’t been studied there)
- → Retinitis pigmentosa, or a previous NAION episode
- → Sickle-cell anaemia, leukaemia, myeloma or Peyronie’s disease
- → Alpha-blockers for prostate or blood pressure (tamsulosin, doxazosin) — the label wants you stable on those first, and starting at Avana 50
Price per tablet — and the odd pack sizes, explained honestly
This is where Avana confuses everyone, so we’ll lay it out and then say what we’d buy. Strips hold four tablets, which is why the packs run 32, 40, 60, 80, 92, 120 rather than 30, 60, 90. Prices are our live ones.
| Pack | Avana 100 | Per tablet | Avana 50 | Per tablet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 32 tablets | $270.99 | $8.47 | $225.99 | $7.06 |
| 40 tablets | $316.99 | $7.92 | $259.99 | $6.50 |
| 60 tablets | $429.99 | $7.17 | $344.99 | $5.75 |
| 80 tablets | $543.99 | $6.80 | $429.99 | $5.37 |
| 92 tablets | $611.99 | $6.65 | $480.99 | $5.23 |
| 120 tablets | $770.99 | $6.42 | $600.99 | $5.01 |
Read that table twice, because it’s not the usual “bigger is cheaper” shape. Bluntly:
- → The 32-pack is the dearest per tablet. $270.99 for 32 Avana 100 is $8.47 a tablet, against $7.92 in the 40-pack. Avanafil is simply a more expensive molecule than sildenafil at the factory, and the small packs carry the delivery cost over fewer tablets.
- → 60 and 80 are the sensible packs. $7.17–$6.80 a tablet for the 100, $5.75–$5.37 for the 50. Pick by how many you’ll use before the expiry.
- → 92 and 120 keep lowering the per-tablet price. The 120-pack of Avana 100 is $770.99, or $6.42 a tablet, the cheapest avanafil on the shelf; delivery is included on every pack.
- → Avana 50 is not half the price of Avana 100, it’s roughly 80 percent. On 50 mg, halving Avana 100 from the 80-pack ($3.40 per dose) beats buying Avana 50 ($5.37).
Against the rest of the shelf: Cenforce 100 runs $3.83 a tablet at 30 and $1.10 at 360. Avana 100 at $6.80 in the 80-pack is dearer. You’re paying a premium for the speed and the cleaner side-effect profile; for the men who reorder it, that’s clearly worth it.

Who should order Avana, and who shouldn’t bother
Order Avana 100 if:
- → You want a tablet you take when the moment arrives, not an hour before it
- → Sildenafil’s blue-tint vision or flushing put you off, and you still want a short-acting option
- → You eat late and can’t guarantee an empty stomach
- → You prefer a drug that’s out of your system by morning rather than Monday
Order Avana 50 if:
- → You’re over 65, or on an alpha-blocker, or take erythromycin/diltiazem/verapamil — the reduced dose is the label’s starting point for you
- → Other PDE5 inhibitors gave you headaches and you’d like the gentlest first try
- → You’ve already found 50 mg is your dose and don’t want to cut tablets
- → You want the cheapest way to test whether avanafil suits you: the 40-pack of Avana 50 is $259.99
Don’t bother with Avana if you want the 36-hour window (that’s tadalafil — see Vidalista 20 vs Cenforce 100), if sildenafil already suits you, or if you take a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor. Our opinion: for spontaneity, Avana 100 from the 40- or 80-pack is the tablet we’d put in the box. For everything else, the older molecules are cheaper.
Questions we get asked
How fast does Avana 100 work?
The label says as early as 15 minutes; count on 30 for the 100 mg dose and you’ll rarely be caught out. It peaks at around 30–45 minutes and stays useful for about six hours. A heavy fatty meal pushes the peak back by roughly an hour but doesn’t cancel the effect the way it can with sildenafil. Arousal is still required.
Is Avana 100 stronger than Cenforce 100?
No. The milligram numbers belong to different molecules and don’t compare. Avanafil 100 mg is its starting dose; sildenafil 100 mg is its maximum. What avanafil offers is speed, a slightly longer window and fewer visual side effects — not more effect. If sildenafil already works for you without bothersome side effects, there’s no reason to switch.
Should I start with Avana 50 or Avana 100?
The label starts most men under 65 at 100 mg. Start at 50 mg if you’re over 65, on an alpha-blocker, take a moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor, or have had headaches from other ED tablets. Avana 100 is scored, so halving a 100 gives a 50 mg dose — and per milligram it’s usually cheaper than buying Avana 50.
Why is the 32-pack more expensive than the 40-pack?
It isn’t any more. The 32-pack of Avana 100 is $270.99 ($8.47 a tablet) and the 40-pack $316.99 ($7.92), and every larger pack lowers the per-tablet price down to $6.42 at 120. Buy the size you will use before the expiry.
Can I take Avana 200 mg?
200 mg is the licensed maximum and is only appropriate when 100 mg gave a partial result without side effects, and a doctor agrees. That’s two Avana 100 tablets at the same time, no more than once in 24 hours. Never go above 200 mg, and never combine avanafil with another PDE5 inhibitor.
Is avanafil safe with alcohol?
One or two drinks, yes. The label specifically warns that avanafil with heavy drinking causes a bigger drop in blood pressure and a faster heart rate than either alone, and can leave you dizzy. Beyond a couple of drinks, alcohol also causes its own erection problems, and the tablet gets blamed.
What to do now
If you’ve spoken to a doctor and what you want is a tablet that keeps up with the evening rather than dictating it, open the Avana 100 page and pick the 40- or 80-pack — not the 32. Take the first one 30 minutes ahead on a light stomach, no more than a drink or two, and expect a six-hour window. Over 65, on an alpha-blocker, or just cautious? The Avana 50 page has the 32-pack at $225.99, the cheapest test of avanafil on the site. Sealed Sunrise Remedies strips, plain packaging, tracked delivery (see shipping).
